What is Kidney Cancer?

Kidney cancer originates in the kidneys, with renal cell carcinoma being the most common type. It often goes undetected until it has progressed.

Renal cell carcinoma is the most prevalent type of kidney cancer in adults, while Wilms’ tumor is commonly found in children.

Although the cause of renal cell carcinoma isn’t fully understood, it is believed to arise from mutations in kidney cells, which lead to their abnormal and rapid growth.

The tumor is confined to the kidney and is typically 7 cm or smaller.

The tumor is larger than 7 cm but remains localized within the kidney.

Cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes or nearby tissues but not to distant organs.

The cancer has metastasized to distant organs, such as the lungs, liver, or bones, indicating a more serious prognosis.
